Public Policy · Agri-Food Systems · Resilience & Sustainability
I study how public policy, institutions and markets shape resilience, food security and sustainability in African agri-food systems — asking not only what governments decide, but how those decisions reach the households they are meant to protect. Increasingly, the same question follows me into the digital sphere: who is protected there, and who is left exposed.
POLICY INSTITUTIONS PRODUCTION SUPPLY CHAINS OUTCOMES
From policy decisions to agri-food outcomes
My research examines how policies, institutions, and enterprise responses shape resilience and sustainability across agri-food systems. The journey below is the programme at a glance: five connected themes, the questions that link them, and the studies working at each stop.
Selected research across the journey
One study, in depth. The supply-chain theme includes an optional interactive experience: the disruption-breadth study of 79 Kenyan agri-food enterprises, and how the institutional support they described relates to its findings. Its coefficients and conclusions belong to that study alone.
The buffering pattern, in your hands
My current working paper asks whether institutional support changes what disruption does to the social side of a food enterprise. The chart below is that result, drawn from the fitted model itself. Move the support score and watch the slope.
Institutional support score
Dimensions of the support experience described, out of five
Slope at score 1B = −0.623
95% CI −0.802 to −0.445 · 19 enterprises at this score
Where enterprises described only one dimension of the support experience, each additional type of disruption is associated with markedly lower social sustainability contributions.
The interaction behind the chart: each additional described dimension is associated with a 0.33-point increase in the disruption slope (B = 0.329, p < .001). The score counts characteristics of the support experience that enterprises described, including unfavourable assessments and accounts of non-receipt. A higher score means more dimensions documented, not more support received.

What the work adds up to
A decade-spanning record of peer-reviewed evidence, one commissioned national study, and a doctorate in progress.
Counting only what is verifiable on this site. Live citation and readership metrics are maintained on ORCID, ResearchGate and Google Scholar — not frozen here.
Selected publications and current research
Verified statuses, as of 2026. Ongoing projects are labelled as such; nothing here is listed as published before it is.
The distance between a policy on paper and a meal on the table is where my research lives.
